Congress and American economists are blaming China for America's economic woes.

I suggest, "The Crowd" by Gustave Le Bon, a study in the charcteristics of herd mentality and, Wilfred Trotter's, "Instincts of the Herd During War and Peace".
ReplyDeleteLe Bon suggests that "the barbarians" are rather the violent mob that arises as a result of the 'collective mind' that is formed when a group of individuals gather together to carry out a purpose. As conscious personality vanishes that group is transformed into an "organised group" and as they get closer to obtaining that goal the "barbarians" revolt and violently oppose the 'organised group'.
His book was written circa 1896 but it reads as though he were observing our present society.
Although Trotter reveals his true colors about halrway through "Instincts of the Herd" his thesis concerning herd is correct and valuable.
It also becomes apparent how Germany's defensive stance during WWI transitions into "Jew hating" in the press with his citations of a German article.
We are witnessing the emergence of one of the most lethal forms of 'crowd control' ever exhibited throughout history. Akin to watching the slasher movies of my childhood knowing that death lurked on the other side of the curtain for the 'poor kid' that was just looking for his friends.
