Americans: Too Gullible, Too Uneducated, Too Jingoistic to Remain a Free People - We Are Officially a Police State

"An American Police State was inevitable once Americans let "their" government get away with 9/11."

It Is Official: The US Is A Police State
By Paul Craig Roberts

On September 24, Jason Ditz reported on Antiwar.com that "the FBI is confirming that this morning they began a number of raids against the homes of antiwar activists in Illinois, Minneapolis, Michigan, and North Carolina, claiming that they are ‘seeking evidence relating to activities concerning the material support of terrorism.’"

Now we know what Homeland Security (sic) secretary Janet Napolitano meant when she said on September 10: "The old view that ‘if we fight the terrorists abroad, we won’t have to fight them here’ is just that — the old view." The new view, Napolitano said, is "to counter violent extremism right here at home."

"Violent extremism" is one of those undefined police state terms that will mean whatever the government wants it to mean. In this morning’s FBI foray into the homes of American citizens of conscience, it means antiwar activists, whose activities are equated with "the material support of terrorism," just as conservatives equated Vietnam era antiwar protesters with giving material support to communism.
Antiwar activist Mick Kelly, whose home was raided, sees the FBI raids as harassment to intimidate those who organize war protests. I wonder if Kelly is underestimating the threat. The FBI’s own words clearly indicate that the federal police agency and the judges who signed the warrants do not regard antiwar protesters as Americans exercising their Constitutional rights, but as unpatriotic elements offering material support to terrorism.

"Material support" is another of those undefined police state terms. In this context the term means that Americans who fail to believe their government’s lies and instead protest its policies, are supporting their government’s declared enemies and, thus, are not exercising their civil liberties but committing treason.

As this initial FBI foray is a softening up move to get the public accustomed to the idea that the real terrorists are their fellow citizens here at home, Kelly will get off this time. But next time the FBI will find emails on his computer from a "terrorist group" set up by the CIA that will incriminate him. Under the practices put in place by the Bush and Obama regimes, and approved by corrupt federal judges, protesters who have been compromised by fake terrorist groups can be declared "enemy combatants" and sent off to Egypt, Poland, or some other corrupt American puppet state — Canada perhaps — to be tortured until confession is forthcoming that antiwar protesters and, indeed, every critic of the US government, are on Osama bin Laden’s payroll.

Almost every Republican and conservative and, indeed, the majority of Americans will fall for this, only to find, later, that it is subversive to complain that their Social Security was cut in the interest of the war against Iran or some other demonized entity, or that they couldn’t have a Medicare operation because the wars in Central Asia and South America required the money.

Americans are the most gullible people who ever existed. They tend to support the government instead of the Constitution, and almost every Republican and conservative regards civil liberty as a coddling device that encourages criminals and terrorists.

The US media, highly concentrated in violation of the American principle of a diverse and independent media, will lend its support to the witch hunts that will close down all protests and independent thought in the US over the next few years. As the Nazi leader Joseph Goebbels said, "think of the press as a great keyboard on which the Government can play."

An American Police State was inevitable once Americans let "their" government get away with 9/11. Americans are too gullible, too uneducated, and too jingoistic to remain a free people. As another Nazi leader Herman Goering said, "The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. Tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace-makers for lack of patriotism and for exposing the country to danger."

This is precisely what the Bush and Obama regimes have done. America, as people of my generation knew it, no longer exists.

  2. It's not the Nazis, it's the Zionists going after anti-Zionists.

  3. I live in California, and on the street here, a lot of people simply do...not...care! But's that's the out-for-myself-only California culture (but maybe true for all Western culture). This is speculation on my part, but it seems that Americans remain hypnotized by our success during WWII. The America they think we live in is that America, not the America that actually exists today.

  4. It hit me that G. Bush and his press secretary said that the presidents main job is to protect the American people. Actually the Presidents main job, by oath, is to support and defend the Constitution. We the people defend America. It is kings and totalitarian leaders that hold a paternalistic position vis a vie the citizen. That no one once called him on this frightened me for my country.

  5. Perhaps I am an optimist because I believe that if the people have certain information and spread it widely, the bullying police state will be put in its proper place. When people realize how easy it would be to cause chaos if there actually were terrorists, it will become obvious that the whole terror thing is a sham. I have put some videos on youtube and you can see these at whatisknown.com/video.html. The more hits these videos get the clearer will be the message that we know how to stop being bullied. The banks are behind all of the police activities and the bankers call the shots politically. The bankers are all about profit and when they see just how easy it is to lose big-time they may take a new look at things.

  7. What a wonderful, passionate, article. Thanks for being there, Dr. Roberts. We must fight back for our liberties, and be willing to pay the ultimate price. The bankers are few and we're many. We know their names, and they do not know ours. We do not need to form groups, which their agents will surely infiltrate. We can still act on our own. For me it's simple: liberty or death.

  9. Now that the so called "police state" is affecting the majority culture it's all about sounding an alarm. The USA has been a police state for decades. When COINTELPRO was in its heyday, it wasn't "us" so we did not care. Now that you have sat around on your fat cheese-stuffed asses for decades, now they are coming for YOU and NOW you're all enraged:
They came first for the Communists,
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

    Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

  11. If your standing at the bottom of a snow covered mountain, and you see the beginnings of an avalanche heading your way, do you stand there and discuss the cause of the avalanche, or how it could have been prevented, or how it could possibly be stopped, or even, is it really an avalanche? ?
I'd say getting out of the way would be a pretty good idea.

  15. zero sympathy for american lowlives. agree with anon 12:02... the only reason you are complaining is because middle class white people are being affected now. when it was the rest of us you just sat there...

...or worse...I like a lot of what Paul Craig Roberts is writing these days, but we all have to remember that he was a part of the Reagan administration, and that the Reagan administration had absolutely no problem raining down death on poor brown people anywhere on Earth and especially in Central America.

Has Paul Craig Roberts expressed contrition for having been a part of a cabal of genocidal maniacs?

Until he does, he deserves nothing, just like Americans deserve nothing. They are the filth of the planet, bombing every brown person and slav they can get their greedy little hands on, and then whining and complaining like children when the chickens come home to roost.

my tears are reserved for your victims, America, not for a bunch of sub human goons who kill on command.

  16. I think FBI is doing the right thing by these raids, having better opinion about us than we deserve. Given the blatant behavior of the government, I guess the anti-war protesters indeed should not be so peaceful, and indeed, if Americans were not so gullible, the attacks on congresspeople, on bankers, and on similar high worth individuals would be happening every now and then. Usually, when people are fucked up badly, then strike back - take Palestinians, or any other similar example. FBI in their naivete probably think that America are indeed land of the brave and protesters would do what they are supposed to.

  19. Wakey wakey, Dr.Roberts - as ever you are way behind the curve. Try reading up on Gordon Duff's articles before trying to water everything down. You never, ever get to the bottom of the heap - why not? You never mention the real people behind the scenes - why not? All you do is incite the ignorant to 'revolution' as if their puny weapons would be of any use whatsoever against drones and cruise missiles. Ever since Reagan, your way has failed, so why not just concentrate on restoring the Constitution?

Zionism, Nazism, Communism and every other -ism is just the Elite's way of maintaining power through millennia old practices of 'divide and rule' and the real 'gotcha' of

"We will lead every revolution against us"

That they have been 99% successful using this diabolical mind-bending policy can now be clearly seen in all the so-called 'alternative' so-called 'news sites' that didn't cover Ahmedinajad's UN speech - truthout, commondreams, antiwar, thinkprogress, truthaction, counterpunch - you name it, they've all been totally infiltrated by those very few psychotics who think they run the world.

As long as people of conscience fold to foundation money, this devilish absurdity will continue.

  20. Both Sides are nothing more than opposite wings on the same dirty bird. Its still a dirty bird that is being dealt with.

When the masses wake up and start reading dragging the Articles of Confederation(which were never abolished)along with the Constitution and demanding that the rules be played by whats literally written there then not shit gonna change for the better its only going to get worse.
